Blog Journal #7

I decided to search for second grade websites since I want to be a second grade teacher. On my search, I found many different things. Publicly, I was able to see the teacher's emails and most of their phone numbers. I was able to see newsletters, class schedules, and some teachers even had things like Twitter accounts. Each website was different in their own way but pretty much had the same general information. https://www.dist126.org/~AKiely@dist126.org/mrs-kielys-2nd-grade-class

I envision myself using technology to accomplish my professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively by using things like Google Calendar to stay organized and having a website for the parents and students to access. Things like tests, events, and field trips can be posted for all of the parents and students to see so that way everything is clearly marked and there is no confusion. By having a website for the students and parents to access, things like my contact information and monthly newsletters can be posted so that way everything can be found in one place and makes it convenient for everyone. This way everything can be organized and can be used a common ground for parents to have everything they need in a single spot.

In the web design assignment, I learned how to make a Google Calendar , Pinterest board, and a website. I do not really use Google Calendar so this was a new skill for me. I use Pinterest but have never made a board before so this was also a new skill I had to learn. I liked pretending I was a teacher and getting to write about myself and pick fun activities to plan for the announcements section of the website. I disliked using Weebly. In my future career, I can use what I learned to make an actual website when I become a teacher and make a Google Calendar to have everything posted in the same place.

Blog Journal #6

I am personally not the biggest fan of Diigo. With our assignments last week, it took me a long time to figure out to use it. I also do not like that you have to add a chrome extension for the extra features. That adds even more confusion and I feel like my computer will get a virus. I personally think that Diigo is useless and I will not use it in the future.

I do not mind blogging. I find this website a lot more easy to use and it feels like journaling, which I love to do. During the blogging process, I have learned how to comment on other people's blogs and how to edit the settings to make the blog exactly how I want it. It has been an enjoyable experience.

a Web 2.0 tool that I want to use during teaching is Google Classroom. Google Classroom was a tool my teacher's used in K-8 school and it is super easy to use, especially since we were using other tools like google docs, google slides, and gmail accounts. In my experience with it, my review of google classroom is that it is a very easy to use LMS that works with many other third-party apps and services to make digital education very easy, affordable, and accessible for teachers, students, guardians, and admins.  It is primarily focused on personalizing the learning experience of students rather than managing it.

Blog Journal #5

I am probably the only one out of my friends who does not have a personal Twitter account. To me, I find it confusing and unless. So, I have really only been interacting with posts surrounding our EME class as I have no interest in using it for personal reasons. I have found it beneficial when interacting with EME related posts. Twitter could be helpful in my future career if I become a Principal. I could make a twitter account for the school and post important updates for the parents and students.

The digital divide can affect students in many ways. In fact, I see it in my job. I tutor through an online company using Zoom. This requires students to have their own electronic devices in order to receive tutoring. Two of my students have computers, and two students have to use a phone. The students who have to use their phone are limited by many things, including the size of the screen which impacts their ability to see me, the quality as the phone quality is more blurry, and the volume as computer volume is better. This makes students unable able to receive the best tutoring possible and therefore is hindering at their success in school. Some causes of the digital divide are low literacy and income levels, geographical restrictions, lack of motivation to use technology, lack of physical access to technology, and digital illiteracy. This could affect me as a future teacher because as the world continues to go more digital, homework assignments are becoming digital as well. If a student does not have access to wifi outside of school, they will not be able to complete their homework assignments. I want to try to create as many non digital homework assignments as possible for my students.

This was my first time using the pages feature in Canvas. Honestly, I neither disliked or liked it. I thought it was confusing at first, but once I got the hang of it it was not hard at all. I wish Canvas was more organized and made things easier to find as it took me awhile to figure out where our project was actually located. I could use the pages feature in canvas in my future K-12 teaching by assigning groups through Canvas and posting all of my students grades and work on Canvas as well.

Blog Journal #4

Since I want to teach second grade, I chose grades K-2. I think the a very standard mentioned is problem solving in algorithms. This standard discusses sorting students with or without technology, solving things like puzzles or other appropriate problems with or without technology, and creating algorithms like getting ready for school or making breakfast by themselves or with help, without using things like computers. I feel very prepared to implement this standard without the help of technology as I have experience teaching and tutoring children this age without technology. However, I feel that implementing technology into this standard can be difficult, so I will have to learn ways to do so before I begin teaching on my own.

Like I said before, I want to teach second grade so I chose second grade. I have the least amount of experience teaching math, so I chose resources about math lesson plans. As a new teacher, this section can be very helpful to me because I have no experience creating lesson plans so this section can help guide me to make accurate lesson plans. This section provides examples of math lesson plans that will be very helpful to me in my teaching by making sure I am teaching the correct things, the correct way, and making my lesson plans correctly.

It is important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher because as a teacher, the internet is one of the most important tools. The internet is where teachers pull their data from, get lesson materials, post grades, and more. I think the skill I will use the most moving forward is combining searches. For teachers, being able to combine searches is very important as it makes it easy to find multiple materials at once for students. I do not have any searching skills to share.

Blog Journal #3

In my own words, copyright is a legal right that is given by the originator to protect his or her original right of authorship as soon as the original work is created or recorded. In my own words, fair use is any copying of copyrighted material that is done for a more limited and transformative purpose. As a teacher, I would make sure to purchase enough copies for each student whenever I am using someone else work or get permission from the owner of the worksheet to make copies. I would also make sure to use published sources. I would make sure the my students are creating their own original work.

In 2022/2023, I feel that the two most relevant technology implementation issues in schools are academic dishonesty and cyberbullying. A solution to academic dishonesty could be to have sites like Hapara to monitor the students screen for online exams and assignments while in class, and to have the teachers use things like turnitin to check the students essays and make sure there was no plagiarism. A solution for cyberbullying would be to have the guidance counselor come in once a week and give a presentation about cyberbullying. This presentation would be followed by an activity that somehow spreads and promotes kindness throughout the classroom.

Since I have not used Microsoft Word a lot, I learned a lot of things. I learned how to make word art and how to make a permission slip. In the future, I want to learn how to use the word art feature to make my newsletter better in the future. In my future career, I can use these new things to make my newsletters to my students and parents creative and engaging.
