Blog Journal #2

Growing up in K-12, I have always used google docs. We had Chrome books given to us throughout elementary, middle, and high school so we always used things like google docs, google slides, and google spread sheets. However, coming to FSU, the preferred software is Microsoft word. I personally prefer google docs since I have been using it for so many years and find it very user friendly, so it was challenging for me to learn how Microsoft word and other things like excel work.

Personally, I think the ISTE standard for educators that is most important is 2.3 citizen which is about Educators inspiring students to contribute to participate in the digital world in a positive way. I think this because personally I will always remember the teachers who were inspiring to me because I see them as my role models. They are the reason I decided to major in education because I want to inspire the next generation of children. The digital world also continues to grow so it is very important to have teachers who encourage students to go out and make a difference in the growing digital world.

I personally agree and disagree with the label "digital native" in today's youth. I personally do not see myself falling under the assumptions of digital natives because I do not learn best in media rich environments and sometimes feel very uncomfortable around technology, even though I am born in the "digital native" era. However I do agree that this generation is more comfortable with technology than generations before us. To me, what it means to be a digital native is someone who is familiar with the internet and things like computers from an early age so they are more comfortable with them. I personally have not seen differences from the way I use technology and the way my teachers use technology as they are all very tech savvy. However, I do think that when I am a teacher my students will know how to use technology better than me so some issues could arise.

Blog Post #1

Hi! My name is Molly Jones. I am a sophomore studying elementary education. Here at Florida State, I am a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and I love it.  I am from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and I have known I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 4 years old as my mom and grandma are both teachers. After graduation, I want to get my masters in leadership and hopefully one day be able to become a principal after many years of experience teaching in the classroom.

In an education setting, I've used technology quite a lot. In middle and high school, I used a Chrome Book my school provided me with and we used google docs, slideshows, and spreadsheets. When COVID hit, we used google hangouts and zoom to still be connected and have class virtually. I also have my own personal Macbook that I use for assignments and to surf the web as well. Here at FSU, we use canvas to turn in our assignments and Microsoft word and excel to do assignments on.

As for my PLN,  I use lots of resources to help support my learning goals. I listen to many different podcasts that help to motivate me to get my work done and become a successful as a teacher. I also follow teacher influencer's on TikTok that provide inspiration for classrooms and lesson plans as well as tips and tricks on how to successfully manage a classroom. I also love to go to Strozier because it helps me focus more than in my apartment. In addition to these, over the summer I work at a preschool where I always learn so much from my coworkers and get so much experience.

This is Fort Lauderdale beach. It is one my favorite places to go on a run or a walk with my dad!
